Their place is made up of two small spaces divided by a tarp wall. The entrance opens to the outside which at night transforms into the sleeping area where the couple hangs up two hammocks to rest on. In the next room, there is a cement shelf where the family cooks and cleans. There´s no running water nor gas, they cook over a fire from discarded wood they find around town.

Carlos is María's husband. He is quiet and reserved, they are both very modern Wayúus. They both were attending college working towards teaching degrees before things got bad in Venezuela. She was studying chemistry and he was pursuing a preschool educational program. Carlos has Wayúu relatives on the Colombian side of the border, making it a powerful reason for them to emigrate to Colombia. He works sporadically as a construction worker and provides for his family.
